And that's our route all along the margin of this promontory with plenty of good views along the way.  I had intended to paint, but the day is overcast, so we'll just appreciate the views and hike with no obligation other than getting to the highest point.

The next view allows a good kook at a formation known as Sinking Ship-a piece of the top layers that have somewhat detached and eased into the Canyon,

The Kaibab shows its complicated way of eroding.  Some of it in "fins" and some in pedestal layers.

The inner voice says "not today".

So, we'll wander on.  The trail becomes a bit more faint and we have to find our way around piñons, and cliff rose.  And isn't that something red ahead?

What a treat!  A gorgeous Claret Cup cactus.  My plant app names it "King Cup".

If you're careful, you can touch the waxy blossoms.  Anthers and styles surrounding a green stygma.  Although not shown in this photo, little bees are busy around most of the blossoms.

And here's our destination, although a cloudy scene.  There are a number of rocks available for a comfortable seat.  Take your time and gaze then we'll meet back at the car.  You can't get lost; just stay close to the edge.
